From Genesis to Exodus

From Genesis to Exodus

Four generations have passed and it seems the covenant that God made with Abraham is over.
The covenant that God made is actually the same promise we see in Genesis 1-3, God will restore his creation to Himself. The story at this point will pick up with the entry of Moses in the next chapter.

As time passes and the nation of Israel (as Jacobs was renamed by God) grows, a new Pharaoh comes to power. This Pharaoh has problems of his own, he has no knowledge of the fact that Joseph did a great service to his country and fears that if his enemies rise up against him the numerous Israelites will side with his enemies.

The Israelites are enslaved by the Egyptians to keep their numbers down and subjugate them. This is where we pick up the story in  Exodus.

As we go into the first chapter of Exodus we see that the Pharaoh is so afraid of the Israelites that he multiplies there workload, as well as commanding the midwives to kill all newborn baby boys. The babies are to be thrown into the Nile. The midwives refusal to obey this order causes them to be blessed by God.

Family line from Adam to Abraham to the tribes of Israel

Adam: Cain-Abel-Seth
Seth:Noah-Shem
Shem: Terah
Terah: Abraham
Abraham-Isaac
Isaac: Jacob-Esau
Jacob: Twelve Tribes of Israel

There are several times throughout the story of the Bible that we see generation pass before God continues the story with a person that He has selected to use. We don't know where we are our own timeline or where the church is from the time it begins in Acts to the end of Revelation, however we do know that God is still reaching the lost that  he has chosen for His own.
In looking at your own story would you say that are you the midwife, or maybe Jacob, an Israelite slave or a fearful Pharaoh? Are you one of the Israelite girls that was spared? Only God see's the whole picture, your job is to walk with the Spirit daily and trust.
Often times we get so caught up in the day to day life we are living we lose sight of the big picture. Just as the Israelites did not know their part in the big picture at the time they were living it. Objectivity can get lost when you are in the middle of the story written my someone else. We know  how the story started and where it will end, but our own storyline comes at us one day at a time.
