Eat Drink and Remember/ Deuteronomy 16

I am a video, picture taking junkie. I love compiling family traditions, albums, and movies. I play
them whenever the family gathers. It's good to remember. Remembering keeps the family close, and reminds us of all we've been through together.
Every Thanksgiving my kids know to expect the 21 year family movie to play in the background after dinner. This family video goes through each child, showing their lives from toddler up to the time they became parents themselves. It shows family vacations and celebrations, it is what makes us...us
Getting together in one place on purpose to remember how we came to be who we are is a humble making, close knitting, grateful generating, important tradition. God set this precedence because He knew we would need much reminding.
God gave the Israelites specific directions in Deuteronomy 16. He told them not to work at the Passover celebration. He told them to party and to be filled with joy as they celebrated Gods goodness to them. They were to remember leaving Egypt by doing things to remind them of each aspect of God's deliverance. God was clear that they were not to stay home and celebrate by themselves. They were to gather in the place He would choose. They were to eat food that would remind them where they came from and who gave them life, freedom and a future. Remembering is good.

Tid Bits from Deuteronomy 16:

  • The month of Abib from verse on would have been in the Spring months
  • There are three celebration of remembrance in this passage: Passover, The feast of weeks and the Feast of Tabernacles.
  • The feast of weeks will later be known as Pentecost (it is during this celebration that the Holy Spirit will make His appearance 50 days after Jesus rises from the dead
