Moses Emerges or: One Day At A TIme/ Exodus 1 and 2
One Day at A Time
Moses had no idea when he ran from Egypt to the country of Midian,to hide, that God had a plan for his life. There was no way to know that in 40 years he would be leading hundreds of thousands of freed slaves to a promised land, or that he was part of a Gospel story, a plan to redeem humanity from sin. Did he know that his life in Midian was part of the preparation to live a nomadic life, or that his growing up years in Egypt would prepare him to be a leader? What about you?Do you know the plan? What are the circumstances of your life today preparing you for?
Here is what we can know. God is in control. God loves us and He has a plan.
We are not to worry, but to keep our eyes on Him. The rest is not for us to figure out (as if we could, even if we wanted to), we just need to ask Him for the strength to do what He puts in front of us today.
Quick Timeline of Moses Early Years:
- Pharaohs during the time of Exodus saw themselves as diving, they believed themselves to be Gods.
- The Pharaoh that is in charge is probably Thatmose and knows nothing of the help Joseph gave Egypt.
- He is concerned that since the Israelites have grown so large (hundreds of thousands of people) that they might side with his enemies if war happens.
- He enslaves them and says that all Israelite boys that are born are to be throw in the Nile.
- The other major power at this time of history was Mesopotamia
- The midwives lie to Pharaoh and let the boys live, God rewards them.
- One of these children was Moses.
- His mother hid him for three months when she finally put him in a basket and had sister Miriam watch him float up to Pharaohs daughter, where she found him when she was bathing.
- Miriam snatches the opportunity to "find a wet-nurse to help", and conveniently offers her mother.
- Moses (an Egyptian name meaning I drew out of the water) grows up in the palace but knows he is Hebrew or an Israelite (the two words are interchangeable like English Speaking or American)
- He sees a Hebrew being abused, kills the Egyptian, realizes someone saw and flees to Midian.
- In Midian he marries and has kids. He lives in Midian for many years
- Hebrews 11:24New International Version (NIV)
- 24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.
