1 Samuel 20: Feeling Misunderstood?

1 Samuel 20 Feeling Misunderstood?

Summary:

Saul's extreme jealousy causes him to hate David. David doesn't understand what he has done to cause Saul to hate him so much. Saul's son Jonathan and David, being best friends work out a plan to save David's life.
There is this big dinner at King Saul's place that David is suppose to attend. David decides that it is safer not to go, considering Saul is trying to kill him. Jonathan and David put together a plan to find out if David is safe or in danger.
Jonathan is to attend the dinner. He has come up with an excuse for David's absence. The two friends have devised a signal. David is hiding out behind a rock.  If Saul really wants to do away with David Jonathan will head outside and shoot an arrow. When the servant boy goes to retrieve it Jonathan will tell him to look further away. If it is safe for David to come home he will tell the servant that the arrow is just over to one side.
When the time comes for the dinner Saul, as expected, asks Jonathan where David is. Jonathan gives the planned excuse. Saul knows it is a lie and hurdles a spear at Jonathan in his rage. Jonathan dodges the spear, sends the agreed signal to David and the two friends say goodbye. David flees for his life.

What I learned from 1 Samuel 20.

1. Good friends are extremely important, don't take them for granted.
2. We must be a trusted friend to have friends we cant trust.
3. God doesn't always share His plan with us. We can still trust that He is in control.
4. God's plan isn't always easy.
5. When crazy people hate you try not to take in personally.
