1 Samuel 27 Bad Decisions
Summary:
David being chased by King Saul decides to leave Israel. Out of fear he decides to take his family and hide in Philistine territory. David, his two wives, and the six hundred men following him take their families and settled in the land of Gath. Saul heard that David had done and stopped searching for him.David speaks to the leader of the Philistines, Achish and is given the land of Ziklag to settle his troops and families. David lived in this Philistine territory for one year and four months. David and his men begin going on raiding parties to neighboring cities. The brought all the plunder back to Achish leaving no-one alive to tell Achish or Saul was really happening.
Achish trusted David. He figured that David had made himself such a nuisance that his people wouldn't want him back. David was deceiving Achish into believing that he had turned his back on his own people.
What I learned from 1 Samuel 27:
- It is a lot of work to be deceitful. It is better to trust God to protect me.
- Don't make decisions out of fear.
- Being a leader is difficult.
- Often others pay the price for our bad decisions.
- Our bad decision can not stop God's plan from moving forward.
