Fear or Faith?: 1 Samuel 26
1 Samuel 26: Fear or Faith?
Summary: Saul hears a rumor of David’s whereabouts. He chooses 3000 soldiers and goes in search of the man God has chosen to replace him as king. He is obsessed with killing him. David also hears that Saul has come to find him. He takes two scouts down to Sauls, not so discreet camp. Sauls is sound asleep with his army commander at his side, surround on all sides by 3000 sleeping soldiers. David sneaks down and grabs Sauls water jug and speak. God keeps the soldiers asleep (26:12-16). His friends, seeing that Saul is vulnerable, tell him to take Sauls life. David responds that God will decided when and where to take care of Saul, not him. David moves to a safe distance and confront Saul. Saul once again admits that he is a shmuck, and that David will do great things. They part ways.
What I learned from 1 Samuel 26:
1. No matter how safe you think you are, only in God’s hands are you truly safe.
2. If you are in God’s hand you don’t need to be afraid, not matter how things appear.
3. God can put your enemies into a deep sleep.
4. It is never God’s will for you to do the wrong thing.
5. People may be unsafe, but God is always safe.
