The Lord Thundered - 1 Samuel Chapter 7
1 Samuel 7- The Lord Thundered
A portion of Hannah's prayer (mother of Samuel)1 Samuel 2:10 10those who oppose the LORD will be broken. The Most High will thunder from heaven; the LORD will judge the ends of the earth. "He will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed."
Summary
In the last two chapters we saw the Ark of the Lord be captured by the Philistines because the Israelites thought carrying the Ark in front of them would give them victory over their enemies. God brought the Ark back by causing a series of plagues to fall on the Philistines while they held the Ark. After the Lord forced the Philistines to send the Ark back to Israel, the Israelites came to their senses and remembered that God was where they should be putting their trust, not objects. They turned their hearts back to God. Samuel instructed them to get rid of any idols and give God of their devotion. They repented and obeyed. Samuel prayed. God listened. When Israel's enemies tried to attack them while they were gathered to worship God, God thundered against them and they scattered! Israel had peace. Samuel was the judge and leader of Israel for the rest of his life.
What I learned from 1 Samuel 7
1. I would be wise to pray and trust in God, not in the methods of the world or my own cleverness.
2. Don't underestimate the power of a parents prayer (1 Samuel 2:10)
3. Outward shows of piety mean nothing to God, He wants my whole heart, true repentance and obedience.
4. My Father will thunder on my behalf. I don't need to be afraid.
5. True peace comes from placing my trust in God alone.
