Ruth Chapter Two: God Can Be Trusted
God Can Be Trusted
Summary of Ruth Chapter Two:
The two widows, Naomi and Ruth arrive in home to Bethlehem. It was probably not much of a shelter. Ruth offers to go find them food by gleaning in the harvest fields. She winds up (by chance??) in a field that belongs to a distant relative of Naomi's deceased husband. This man, Boaz, shows that he has integrity and compassion by protecting and providing for Ruth. He indicates that she can glean protected in his fields because he has heard of her care for Naomi. Ruth is grateful and surprised as she is a foreigner. When Ruth arrives back home Naomi makes the connection that this man is a kinsman redeemer. A kinsman redeemer is a close relative that could redeem a family member that had been sold into slavery, or reclaim any property that may have been sold during economic hardship. See Leviticus 25:23-5 or Deuteronomy 25:5-10
My favorite verse in this passage:
Ruth 2:12May the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, bless you for it.”
What I learned from Ruth Chapter Two:
1. God loves to surprise us with His goodness when we put our trust in Him.2. You never know what God has in store, my job is to trust and do what is right. It is not my job to try and figure out the future or worry.
3.God loves to use the people other's would reject. It is not our talent he needs, it is our trust and love that He desires.
4. God cares for me much like Boaz cared for Ruth. I need to stay with Him where I am protected and cared for. Not go to another's field.
5. When things seem bad, I must remember that nothing is out of God's control.
