Submission Happens in your Heart: 1 Samuel 13

1 Samuel 13: Submission Happens in the Heart

Summary of 1 Samuel 13:

Saul and his son Jonathan are fighting the Philistines, Israel's constant enemy. Jonathan has a victory over a group of them, and the Philistines are mad. Saul's army gets scared, they starting hiding and defecting in droves (which speaks to Saul's leadership in my humble opinion). Saul tries to come up with a solution to his predicament. He has been waiting for the Prophet Samuel to show up and make an offering to God as promised. When Samuel runs a bit late Saul decides to make the offering himself, after all he is the King. Samuel shows up and shakes his head, "what have you done Saul?". Saul tries to make excuses, but Samuel tells him that God has left him. God is going to choose a new king. Samuel leaves. Saul has only 600 men left, and basically no weapons. Things don't look good for Saul.

What I learned from 1 Samuel 13:

1. Submitting to God means trusting him when I don't understand what is happening.
2. I am not the answer to mine or anyone else's problems. God is where we place our hope!
3.Obey! No matter how afraid you are.
4. As a leader, if you followers are afraid it is your job to show them where hope is found.
5.Saul was afraid, that is why he disobeyed. His people followed his leadership.
