2 Samuel 20
2 Samuel 20:
There are several women in the Bible that inspire us all. Their quick thinking saved not only their own lives but the lives of their families and even entire nations.By being aware, patient, wise and clever; Rahab, Esther, Ruth's mother in law Naomi and many others have their stories recorded to cause all women to reflect on the power of courage fueled by faith in God. My favorite of all these stories is Abigail. Abigail had from what I can tell, a prideful, often drunk and abusive husband. The Bible describes him as a surly, mean man. Abigail seeing that his arrogance was going to get them all killed acted quickly, quietly and with great wisdom. Her actions saved her entire household, and stopped David from slaughtering innocent people. King David was so struck by her that later when she is widowed he sent for her to be his bride. Her story is found in 1 Samuel 25.
These women weren't rash, belligerent, or victims, they were careful, courageous and wise for the sake of not only themselves, but those God had placed in their lives to care for. It inspires me to not think about my own little world but to be prayerful and watchful for moments that God has appointed for me.
Today's passage has a little different twist on these thoughts. David again has people trying to overthrow him as King. This chapter is about another woman that was a quick thinker and fast on her feet.
