2 Samuel 12: My Daily Bible Blog
What Happened:
King David should have been going out to war with his troops, as this is what Kings do in the Spring when there is good weather and plentiful food. David however sends his commander Joab and
decides to stay home. As he walks on his palace roof he see's a beautiful woman bathing. Finding out who she is AND whose wife she is, he impulsively decides to send for he, "lie" with her, and OOPS, gets her pregnant.
Her husband happened to be one of David's loyal troops, and was away fighting on behalf of his King and country. David makes another quick decision; the best thing to cover up adultery is murder. He brings Uriah home from the battle and encourages him to "spend the night" with his wife. Uriah does join David at his palace, but out of loyalty to the fighting men sleeps in the city gate, not with his wife. David then gets him drunk and tries again to send him home to his wife, but Uriah again stays loyal to the men on the front lines and sleeps in the city gate.
David realizing that he is out of plays sends a secret message to Joab to put Uriah on the front lines, then to retreat from him so he will be killed in battle. Joab does this and sends a coded message back to David that the task has been done.
Bathsheba mourns her husband, marries David and bears him a son.
The passage ends by saying " What David had done, displeased the Lord".
My Prayer:
Father remind me to seek you before I make decisions, not only when things are difficult, but even more when things are going well. Keep me from temptation, and help me to walk with your Spirit daily.
Amen

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and He will make your paths straight.
James 1:13-16
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
Galatians 5:16-18So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
